Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship 2022 – Australia’s Harrison Crowe crowned champion with an impressive thirteen-under par score and one shot victory over China’s Bo Jin
The Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) has officially come to an end. Singapore’s James Leow carded a two-over par 74 final round for a four-round total of four-under par. He finished in tied 20th with China’s Yunhe “Sampson” Zheng, New Zealand’s Joshua Bai and South Korea’s Wooyoung Cho.
“This week I had a great start to the week, playing well after the first few rounds but a little mentally drained from the week prior and with a bad neck, couldn’t quite swing it like I normally did,” James said. He continued by saying that he gave his 100% however, it wasn’t his week on the greens this week in Thailand. James Leow will return to Singapore to reset and refocus before the upcoming Nomura Cup (Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Team Championship) that will be held in Manila Southwood Golf & Country Club, Philippines on the 15 – 18 November 2022.

Singapore’s Ryan Ang shot a closing three-over par round, to end off with a total of three-over par (T41st), whilst fellow Singaporean Brandon Han carded a final round even par to finish the event at ten-over par (T49th).
SGA National Coach Matt Ballard mentioned that he was pleased that 3 out of the 4 players made the cut. “Solid effort, unfortunately the weekend wasn’t up to the standard that the players were hoping for,” he stated. He added that he hopes that the players will use this event as a motivation to allow them to train harder, smarter and comeback stronger in the following year.
The winner of the AAC 2022 is Harrison Crowe from Australia, who opened up the final round with a three-over par front nine, but rallied back magnificently with four birdies for a three-under back nine. His even-par final round gave him an impressive four-round total of thirteen-under par, one shot ahead of China’s Bo Jin who carded a one-under par final round to finish the event at twelve-under par.
With this victory, Crowe has earned himself a spot to compete at the 2023 Masters Tournament and The 151st Open, while China’s Bo Jin earned a place in Final Qualifying for The 151st Open.

Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship 2022 – James Leow in tied 11th position after Round 3

The third round of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) was played in breezy conditions at the challenging Amata Spring Country Club. Singapore’s James Leow carded a two-over par 74 and has a three-round total of six-under par. This leaves him tied in 11th position with Australia’s Jeff Guan and Karl Vilips, China’s Yunhe “Sampson” Zheng, Japan’s Leo Oyo and Minato Oshima, Macau’s Ngai “Kelvin” Si and New Zealand’s Joshua Bai.
“It’s not where I want to be going into the final round. But a good solid round tomorrow could get me back in it while the final few groups are playing under pressure and nerves,” James expressed.
The pack are seven shots behind leader Harrison Crowe from Australia who fired a bogey-free five-under 67 for a thirteen-under total, two shots ahead of South Korea’s Minhyuk Song and China’s Bo Jin heading into the final round.
Singaporeans Ryan Ang and Brandon Han carded rounds of three-over 75 and ten-over par 82 respectively today.
The final round will be played tomorrow and the winner will gain coveted spots to compete at the 2023 Masters Tournament and The 151st Open, while the runner(s) up will gain a place in Final Qualifying for The 151st Open.

Round 2
Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship 2022 – James Leow in tied 4th position after Round 2

Round 2 of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) is in the books. SGA National Squad player and top-ranked Singaporean amateur golfer James Leow continues his streak, carded a solid three-under 69. His eight-under par total leaves him in tied 4th position with Japan’s Ryuta Suzuki, Australia’s Karl Vilips and Australia’s Harrison Crowe. The quartet are two shots behind overnight leader Jin Bo from China who carded a three-under 69 for a ten-under total.
“It was great. It was a little bit up‑and‑down. Bogeyed the 9th and 18th which was not what I wanted to see. However, I hung in there and kept giving myself chance. The putts started dropping on the par five 15th and it kind of went on from there,” recalls James after his round today.
Singaporeans Ryan Ang and Brandon Han also made the halfway cut with two-round totals of three-under and even par respectively. Sean Lee unfortunately missed the cut after a two-round total of +13.
A total of 54 players have made the halfway cut which was at even par. They will compete over the weekend in rounds 3 and 4.

Round 1
James Leow in tied 2nd position after Round 1 of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship

The 13th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) is being played at the Amata Spring Country Club, Thailand from 27 – 30 October 2022. 120 top amateurs from 39 countries are competing in this championship, where the winner will gain coveted spots to compete at the 2023 Masters Tournament and The 151st Open, while the runner(s)-up will gain a place in Final Qualifying for The 151st Open.
Round 1 of the tournament has been completed today. SGA National Squad player and top-ranked Singaporean amateur golfer James Leow carded an impressive five-under 67. He is in tied 2nd with Thailand’s home favourite Ratachanon “TK” Chantananuwat, two shots behind the leader Bo Jin from China who shot an opening round of seven-under 65.
“I was hitting shots where I needed to and chipping where I needed to and made putts, so it was great.,” expressed James. “Even though I wasn’t hitting really close to some pins, I was making a lot of putts from outside ten, 15, 20 feet, and that was a big confidence booster”.
James best finish in this event was a tie for 5th position in the 2019, and he is pleased to be in a good position again this year. “It’s always nice knowing you’re in a good spot for the week and just got to keep doing what you’re doing and just keep doing it.”
Singaporeans Brandon Han and Ryan Ang also shot under par rounds. Brandon carded a two-under 70 (Tied 20th) and Ryan one-under 71 (Tied 25th). Sean Lee recorded a ten over par 82, sitting at Tied 110th.
Over the AAC’s 13-year history, the Championship has served as a springboard to the world stage for players including Masters Champion Hideki Matsuyama and Open Champion Cameron Smith.

James Leow, Brandon Han, Ryan Ang and Sean Lee will be representing Singapore as they teed up among top amateur golfers at the prestigious Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) from 27 October to 30 October 2022.
Created in 2009, the AAC was established to further develop amateur golf in the Asia-Pacific region. The champion will receive an invitation to compete in the 2023 Masters Tournament and The 151st Open, while the runner(s)-up will gain a place in Final Qualifying for The Open.
The first round of AAC begins on 27 October 2022.
